The fire that has been burning in the Croatan National Forest since June 16th is now fully contained.
The U.S. Forest Service said Saturday that the fire is 100 percent contained at 21,331 acres.
Water pumped into the canals around the fire perimeter and other firefighting actions suppressed ground fires caused by the surface fire that ignited peat laden soils.
The fire area will remain closed until further notice; however, Catfish Lake Road remains open.
