Large Truck Flips, Driver Pinned In Crash On Highway 17

Crews were called to a crash on Highway 17 between Washington and New Bern.

A driver was pinned in his truck for 15 or more minutes as crews worked to free him from the wreckage. He was conscious when he was put on the stretcher and taken from the scene in an EastCare helicopter. There is no word on his condition.

The crash happened between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. in Craven County near Wilmar. Traffic was stopped on Highway 17, in all lanes in all directions, but traffic was moving about an hour later.

A neighbor said she was asleep in bed when the crash woke her, and she said she thought there had been an earthquake.

The truck was one of several from Thompson Industrial Services traveling toward Wilmington.
