The Highway Patrol says that a Craven County man is dead after a Saturday evening motorcycle accident.
Troopers say 45-year-old Barrett Vogel of Havelock was driving south on to the U.S. Highway 17 on ramp from Highway 55 when his motorcycle went off the road to the right, struck a guardrail and threw him about 30 feet into nearby woods. It happened just outside of Bridgeton, short of the Neuse River Bridge.
Troopers say that it appears Vogel was exceeding a safe speed and went off the ramp too fast for how sharp it was.
Vogel was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center where he died.
Troopers say alcohol was not a factor and that Vogel was wearing a helmet.
