Foresters continue to perform controlled burning in the Croatan National Forest.
Plumes of thick, dark smoke can be seen from many New Bern neighborhoods, but authorities stress that no homes are in danger.
Today's burn is some 1,500 acres, according to the U.S. Forest Service. They say the burn to improve wildlife habitat went tell.
The burn-offs have been going on now for several weeks in Craven and Carteret counties.
