A squadron of Marines, who returned from Afghanistan just about a year ago, are preparing to go back.
This is the second group of the VMU-2 Marines to deploy from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock.
More than 50 Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 2 Marines will spend the next seven months in southern Afghanistan.
VMU-2 operates the RQ-7B Shadow unmanned aerial system, providing ground forces with reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition. The platform also serves as artillery spotters and occasionally assists in search and rescue operations.
