A couple in Pamlico County just returned home from a Valentine's Day dinner when they heard a loud crash and found a car in the side of their house.
It was just after 6:00 P.M. Tuesday when Bill Smith and his wife were sitting in the living room of their home at 5753 Highway 55 in Pamlico County when Smith says they heard what sounded like and explosion and felt their home shake.
Smith says the force knocked his wife out of her chair, moved the stove away from the wall, and broke a number of dishes. Smith says they were shocked to walk outside and find a car in the side of their home.
The driver of the car, 19-year-old Alden Early of Arkansas told Highway Patrol he swerved to miss a cat. He's charged with reckless driving.
Highway Patrol says a driver who swerved to avoid hitting an animal in the road ended up hitting a house in Pamlico County.
The accident happened near 5753 NC 55 in Reelsboro.
Troopers say the driver had non life-threatening injuries and was not taken to the hospital.
The owner of the home was there at the time but not injured. Troopers say there was a lot of damage to the house.
The driver, 19-year-old Alden Early from Arkansas is charged with reckless driving.
