Cops Looking For Family Dollar Robber

Police have released surveillance photos of an armed robber who they say threatened employees with a box cutter.

It happened around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Family Dollar on Neuse Boulevard. New Bern police say the robber took an undisclosed amount of money and had a brief altercation with an employee before running off.

The robber is described as a black male, approximately 5’6” to 5’10” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, and wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the robber should call the New Bern Police Department Major Case Unit at (252) 672-4100.

I can't understand how anyone who works in Retail can go to work without carrying SOME sort of protection. Even if your employer won't allow you to carry a permitted firearm, you can carry pepper spray. Go buy a can of Mace. $20 is a low price to pay for your personal safety. People need to take responsibility for their own safety. Your employers don't care. The police aren't legally obligated to protect you. Your own safety is YOUR responsibility...

A box cutter? You better be a whole lot bigger than that if you are going to come at me with a box cutter.

I use to shop there when I lived in the area 20 years ago. Kinda feels strange to imagine it happening. It's not the town I grew up in anymore.
