Melinda Harris of New Bern turned 114 May 4th. Her friends and family gathered Saturday to celebrate.

The party was held at the Good Shepard Home for the Aged in New Bern.

Many believe she is the oldest woman in the United States.

Harris’ family says the retired beautician and business owner was born on May 4th, 1896.

Her family says the 114-year-old has never taken any medicine until recently due to blood pressure problems. Harris is in good health according to her doctor.

Harris is a native of Windsor.
