Going For World Barbecue Record In New Bern

In order to cook a giant sandwich, you can imagine that you would need a giant oven.

Tommy Moore of Moore's Barbecue in New Bern unveiled the oven he'll be using to cook the world's largest open barbecue sandwich.

Moore showed off the oven behind a warehouse where it will be stored in Pollocksville in Jones County.

The new category was created by the Guinness Book of World Records for New Bern's 300th anniversary.

Moore will cook the sandwich on July 4th at the city's Union Point Park

There's nothing like some good hamburger, chicken, and hotdogs on the old barbecue grill.

Well, he's not going for the world's best bbq; he's going for the World's Biggest Open-faced BBQ sandwich. BBQ is only as good as the smoker/cooker Meister anyway. Some like gas, some like smoke, others swear by charcoal Webbers, some like stove-boiled/oven baked(YouKnowWhutImeanVern). Pick your sauce, or dry-rub and come out enjoying your BBQ. It's all for a good time, ain't it? Hope New Bern wins a Guiness World Record.

Wood is required to cook BBQ, anyone know of a place that uses wood? The BBQ that most cook now is cooked over gas, you can do the same in your home oven. By the way when you cook at home try using Scotts BBQ sauce, great on pork and chicken, but not for the faint of heart. Pablo, I remember my Dad cooking BBQ under the tobacco barn shed, pit dug in the ground, and green hickory wood for coals, Lord was it good.

Boy, Trenton sure is at a loss since Kings closed up there. Nowhere to eat in Trenton anymore. Hasn't been in YEARS!

too bad you all don't see this way - barbecue is kind of like the weather in NC - If you don't like Tommy Moore's barbecue then there are a lot of other choices to make so quit badmouthing and just find you some you like. I like Moore's and Smithfield's and some others sometimes but I don't eat it as much as I use to because I have high blood pressure. So do what you gotta do and get on with it! Good luck, Tommy!

If you are true to your roots and have Eastern NC BBQ sauce running in your veins, Smithfields electric oven waste of pork IS NOT real ENC BBQ, wood cooked pig with grease running down your elbows as you devour the ribs your grandpa just slipped to you and you smell grannys Pineapple Pig Pick'n cake calling your name, now that's ENC BBQ. Bee's, Pete Jones, Ken's Grill aren't to shabby either, that is if its fresh.

They have poor barbeque so this should not be any better.

Moores is ok, but for the best overall meal Smithfields is the best BBQ in New Bern. Excellent hush puppies, excellent sweet tea and FAST service. Moores needs to use House Autry onion mix and sweeten the tea more.
