It's Strawberry Season

It's that time of year again when strawberries are ripe in the east and ready to pick.

WITN headed to White's Farm in Vanceboro Monday where visitors were scooping up the luscious berries. Owners say it's the perfect time for picking and many we spoke to agreed.

Some visitors told us they can't wait to get home to bake a pie or make a strawberry shortcake, others said all they need is a dollop of whip cream.

Experts say strawberry picking is usually best from May to June.

Strawberry Guru you are right....they have never been that great but somehow the media loves them. The tv station and the news outlets flock there and give them free advertisement every year... There are several farms selling at the farmers market in New Bern.. I have tried them all and the best I have had are the ones from Village Creek Farm in Fort Barnwell...

The family and I went picking last week. The strawberries at Whites were not so good. They were big, had mild strawberry flavor, but were not sweet at all. The berries down at Garner's Farm in Newport/Morehead City, were a LOT better.
