A middle school assistant principal has resigned after being charged with stealing money from the school.
John Strickland, who lives in Craven County, was arrested Monday by Mount Olive police. Major Brian Rhodes says $52 was taken from the bookkeeper's office at Mount Olive Middle School last Friday. They are also looking into more than $400 missing from the school book fair as well.
The 37-year-old Strickland was hired in Wayne County in August 2006 as a math teacher at Dillard Middle School and promoted to the assistant principal job in August 2008.
Police say he was released from jail after posting a $1,000 bond.
