Previous Story:

A main road in New Bern is shut down because of a natural gas leak.

Police say around 2:45 p.m. a contractor hit a gas line at a new apartment complex on Trent Road, near Village Drive. That leads into Trent Village.

No one has been evacuated, but no foot or vehicle traffic is being allowed into Trent Village or on Trent Road between Lowe's Boulevard and Hotel Drive.

Police say Piedmont Natural Gas is at the scene and they expect the road to be closed for at least two hours.

as a former NBFD firefighter, I can say this is a regular occurrence. Doesn't matter who the digger is. Sometimes they miss, sometimes the lines aren't properly marked, sometimes an equipment operator isn't as gentle as he should be. Nothing political, just one of those things.

They are building more low income housing next to Trent Village, they are probably looking to save money by using inferior help...just a guess

Look a Cotractor? The gas companies go out there and locate the lines. They mark the ground with paint and give you(contractors)three feet radius.I wonder why the media will not say who hit these or this gas line?Is This political or WHAT!Or was it BARNHILL?They have a history of this but covered up.
