Craven Community College Looks To Revise No Smoking Policy

Relaxing the no-smoking policy is up for debate at one community college Tuesday.

Craven Community College in New Bern has logged lots of complaints from neighbors about their no smoking policy, saying it drives smoking students into their nearby neighborhoods, jamming their streets with cars.

The board of trustees agenda tonight will examine a committee recommendation to designate smoking areas on campus and allow people to smoke in their cars.

I attend Craven Community College and I have rights just like the non-smokers. If I want to walk outside and smoke while on a break then I should have that right as long as I am not standing the entrance way which I have never done. In fact the only ones that I have ever seen standing in the entrance ways are the ones who do not even look like they are old enough to smoke.

The Board should enforce their current no smoking regulations and the city should enforce regulations regarding parking along streets with NO PARKING SIGNS like they do in many other areas. If they change they will never be able to make regulations again. Everyone is entitled to CLEAN AIR and a BUTT FREE community.

Kimo, I think they already have. I don't care if people smoke, its their choice. Just like its your choice to have a personal vice. There is more to this story than meets the eye as witn did a story on this sometime ago.

I would be okay with smoking on campus as long as it is at least 25 feet from any entrance to any building. When I worked in Charlotte, that rule was instituted and it was very nice to not have to walk through a cloud of smoke when entering or exiting a building.

Heaven forbid that we should make it more convenient for people to smoke.
