Former President Of Area Chamber Of Commerce Pleads Guilty To Embezzlement

The former head of Pamlico County's Chamber of Commerce pleaded guilty to embezzlement Monday.

Thirty-seven year-old David Kitchen used to be the president of the Pamlico County Chamber of Commerce. The New Bern Sun Journal says Kitchen pleaded guilty to embezzling money Monday. There is a disagreement between the state and Kitchen's attorney about how much Kitchen embezzled, according to the paper. Kitchen is scheduled to be sentenced in March.

Meanwhile, the court case of the head of another chamber of commerce accused of embezzling money is still going on. Jennifer Barr is due in Pitt County Superior Court in February. She used to head the Ayden Chamber of Commerce.

what is next, you would think that with all the people losing job, houses and etc.that the president of chamber of commerece would be out trying to bring some type of business to the community instead he is stealing from the citizen of the community that is what you call selfness he should be may to pay all the money back with interest because when he stole the money it lost interest also he should not recieve any type of special treatment because of his position

How about giving credit to the Sun Journal for being in the courtroom and breaking the story. Thanks

The man has been in some hot water for a while. What I want to know is how come it's only Martin County people with comments but there is no Pamlico County people discussing anything. Sounds like 2 complete different sets of people in these 2 counties when I just look at this!

Wondering: Due to privacy and liability concerns, detailed information cannot be given out about previous board members, etc., even if it is not personal. The issue of back taxes is being addressed and will be resolved using a choice of different options. Full disclosure of information will be forthcoming. A letter was sent to all chamber members last year, discussing the ongoing situation. Please have patience. Nothing is being "kept" from the community!

Martin Co Concerned Citizen: You are correct, No question is ignorant. "I am VERY concerned over why they droppped the investigation of the former Martin County Chamber Director" is not a question, it is a statement. I was commenting on your statement. The investigation was not dropped as far as the IRS is concerned. It may take longer than our patience will allow, but justice is coming. Due to privacy and liability concerns, detailed information cannot be given out. Jennifer Coombs is our Director.. She was hired in December to take over the first of this month. I may be incorrect as to her full time status, but she was hired to replace the previous director.

It is nice to know that there are other people concerned about the lack of information being kept from the community about MCCOC. Short of discussing personnel matters, aren't the chamber members entitled to full disclosure? What about the back taxes due?

TO CHAMBER BOARD MEMBER...no question is ignorant. Maybe we ask because we HAVE NOT been told anything. It would be nice as a CITIZEN and MEMBER of the chamber to be told something. I do know that you did not have a full time employee in December. Knowledge is nice...but we have to have the information in order to be knowledgeable. Asking questions is not ignorance. Sitting by and letting people do their own thing is IGNORANCE Chamber Board Member. Remember....there is NO DUMB QUESTION.

Martin Co Concerned Citizen -- We have a full time director -- hired last month. Investigation by the Feds (IRS) has not be dropped. The DMV was not lost, it was given up because it was a money losing business due to online use, etc. Once again, comment with knowledge, not ignorance.

I am VERY concerned over why they droppped the investigation of the former Martin County Chamber Director. After she quit, they lost the DMV and have now moved out of the building and we don't even have a full time director. What has happened? WITN needs to investigate this for the people of Martin County.
