Authorities say a Craven County man died Christmas morning from drowning.
Trent Woods police say an autopsy was performed Monday morning on the body of Clem Brinson. Police say there are no signs of foul play.
"It's gonna get easier but as of now, Christmas is not Christmas anymore," said daughter Blair Brinson.
Family members say the former New Bern High School football player had recently beaten a more than 2-year bout with cancer. They say the man may have tripped, and hit his head when he fell off his dock early Friday morning.
"You always see the Christmas morning stories you know an apartment goes up in flames, or tragic wreck and you always feel for those families and then you wake up and it's you one year," Blair Brinson told WITN.
The 59-year-old Brinson was discovered in Cypress Lake, behind his home on Meadowbrook Drive.
Trent Woods police say the 911 call came in around 9:00 a.m. Christmas about a possible drowning.
"It's been a Christmas the I certainly nor nobody else will ever forget," said Lynne Shirley, who is the victim's sister-in-law.
Trent Wood Police tell WITN they responded to a 9-1-1 call on Meadowbrook Drive around 9am Friday morning in response to a possible drowning.
When officers showed up they found a 59 year old male dead in an area of water behind the residence. The cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy.
Authorities aren't releasing the man's identity yet pending notification of family members.
