Bicyclist Killed In Pamlico County Accident

A Pamlico County bicyclist is dead after troopers say he was hit on Highway 55 Tuesday night.

The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. on Highway 55 near Keystown Road.

Troopers say 53-year-old Alvin Powell was killed as he was crossing the highway on his bike. The Highway Patrol says no charges will be brought against the driver of the vehicle.

    hey bicyclists, remember, your skin is what is between you and the road--be extra careful when riding in the dark. its hard to see you, and you wouldnt have a chance. im so sorry for this guys family. please be sure to wear reflective clothing if you are walking or riding in the dark. i would be so devastated if i ever hit someone because i didnt see them!
