While the mass shooting at Fort Hood in left a military community in shock in Texas, military communities in Eastern Carolina are also in shock.
People living near the Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station in the Craven County town of Havelock were saddened to hear what troops in Texas suffered Thursday.
For one Havelock resident, shock turned to panic: she has family on the Fort Hood base.
But Carla Reaves said her panic soon subsided after she received a phone call shortly after the shooting that her loved ones were safe.
Military officials at Cherry Point say they have tightened security on base and plan a de-briefing for Friday morning.
