A man is in jail after police say he robbed and assaulted one man and later assaulted a police officer during his arrest.
Romel King of New Bern is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, resist/obstruct and delay and officer, carrying a concealed weapon, assault of a government official, and other charges.
Police the robbery happened at a Craven Terrace apartment late Sunday night. They say King demanded money from those inside and pistol whipped one of the victims.
When officers arrived, they say King tried to run. During a struggle one of the officers was pinned to the ground and a gun fell to the ground. After being taken into custody, police say they found marijuana in the man's back pocket.
His bond was set at $200,000.
