Troopers Say Alcohol Involved In Deadly Craven County Crash

A woman is dead after a crash Sunday near Fort Barnwell in Craven County.

It happened on Highway 55 East around 12:30 a.m.

Responders found a pickup truck overturned at the corner of Highway 55 and Barwick Road. They say two people were inside.

Troopers say the driver, 46-year-old Julie Wright of Vanceboro, was taken to Carolina East Medical Center, where she died. The passenger, 40-year-old Danny Pearson of New Bern, was transported to UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. There is no word on Pearson's condition.

The State Highway Patrol says alcohol was involved in the crash.

You can argue about not drinking and driving, but sadly, it doesn't bring back the driver. Hope the passenger recovers quickly and, so sad that another duo, out drinking and driving, and one dies. You would thing these folks were old enough to know better.

I dont know any of the facts in this case. But I do know this.I was in a wreck and everybody was drinking EXCEPT the driver. It was not our drivers fault. For some reason nobody got a ticket.MY POINT IS the news got hold of it and said alcohol was involved. In other words if anybody in the car is or has been drinking even if the driver has or have not the LAW will still report that Alcohol was involved. This is defamation of charator and should be against the law.

I do believe that is Hwy 55 West out there not East not that's a big deal or anything. People will never learn and now we are passing laws to help them get their license back. So who's to blame???

When will these people learn. You are driving a machine that can kill, yet we will drive under the influence, while texting or yapping on the phone.....i'm just glad these people didn't kill innocent others. We see it every day, read about it everywhere, yet the human race continues to make the same mistakes over and over again. Of course there are those will say that it's a mistake and it wasn't intentional....It's gotta stop. Plain and simple, this insanity has just gotta stop.
