The gunman is described as a black man in his early 30's, around 5'8" tall, with a thin build. He has short hair worn in dreadlocks, medium complextion and a tattoo on his right hand. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

To Sallie: Please don't apologize for your decision to protect yourself. Just because you value your life and those you love does not make you a violent person. Our politically correct society has done that to us. You can't reason with an animal, and don't be deceived, these criminals that seem to be taking over the streets are animals. I sincerely hope you never have to fire your weapon in self-defense, but if you do, please remember: focus on the front sight, squeeze, don't jerk the trigger and put 2 rounds center of mass. If the criminal is still on his feet, follow up with a head shot. Make sure you use ammo that will expand. It causes more tissue damage and it will also help to keep you out of prison in the event a round passes through. Practice drawing and firing your weapon all you can afford.

Sallie, you have every right to protect yourself. Make no apologies. Just good aim. Make sure you have your license to carry and you visit your local gun range once in awhile for practice. That keeps you legal and safe.

First I want to say that I hate violence, I will not even watch violet movies, but I do carry a concealed weapon at all times. I know if someone tried to attack me there is no way I would win and I refuse to be afraid to go shopping alone. I do not want to hurt anyone but if it comes down to me or them, I will shoot.

Hope they catch the thug! Jeff a car can be used to kill( see story on this page today), do you hate cars? You never hear of people preventing crimes or saving their lives because they have a firearm! The gun didn't rob the guy, the thug did...use your brain! He could have used a knife, baseball bat etc. Read anonymous's comments at pay attention!

It is time for good, decent people to stop behaving like sheep. Wolves are attracted to sheep. Fight back.

A word to the unwise who stalk their would be prey. A lot of people you are stalking are wearing a conceled weapon with a license to do so. Might be a Mom with children. (You would not expect that) I will protect myself and my family. I doubt we would have gotten out of my parking space. Forget his ride home. NEVER drive off with them. You are better off to stay in the parking lot with people around and take your chances then leave with them. Good chance you'll be on the 6:00 news as a dead victim. That guy got lucky.

Continue to keep your heads in the sand. I happen to notice that "Officer" was from Greenville of all places. I guess he believes the bull his chief dishes out. What are you all brainwashed?

This is exactly why I go armed when out in public, especially if my wife is with me. When somebody gets in my "space" all the bells start going off and I will tell them to back off. I don't care who it is or where we are. If that guy had followed us out to the parking lot after being told to back away and then threatened us with a gun, I would have killed him. Plain and simple. The North Carolina General Assembly has granted me the right to defend myself and my family and I will not be a victim. One more reason to enact the castle doctrine in this state.

He probably didn't have a job. The man is blessed that his life was spared. I hate guns. They are never used for good.

Officer. I agree with you. People pull the race card in their comments on this site on almost every story. The stories will have NOTHING to do with race and someone ALWAYS has to bring it in. I call that IGNORANCE. Whites and blacks do it constantly. I bet some of them are wondering what color I am. Well, NONE YA! Thats a need to know basis and you don't need to know. Talk race when its appropriate and STOP BEING SO SENSATIVE PEOPLE!!! Your stupid comments don't change a thing. Man, we could use a change.
