Two Men Arrested Near Area Hotel

Two men are behind bars, accused of drug charges near a New Bern motel.

Officers on patrol in the area of the Palace Motel on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard say they noticed a man lingering the parking lot, while another man was circling the area between the motel and a convenience store.

Officers arrested 23-year-old Freddy Gentry of Stoney Hill Trail after they say they found ecstasy pills in his pants pocket. Gentry faces drug charges. Officers say the other man on the bicycle took off.

A short time later, police returned to the Palace Motel area to follow-up and arrested 27-year-old David Lane of Bloomfield Avenue.

They say Lane got off his bike and struggled with police during his detention, hitting one officer and running away. They caught him on Neuse Boulevard. Lane is charged with several counts, including assault on a police officer and drugs.
