New Bern's defense turned in a big play when they needed it to seal the Bears' 19-13 win over West Craven. On a crucial 4th down play with less than a minute on the clock, the Bears defense forced a fumble to seal a 19-13 win over the West Craven Eagles.
West Craven got on the board first with a 1-yard pass from Justin Hardy to Ryan Murphy less than five minutes in. New Bern answered with two first quarter touchdowns. First, Josh Moore ran one in from six yards out and then minutes later Rashad Benjamin caught a nine-yard strike for QB Jerrell Armstrong,
Moore scored his second touchdown of the half for the Bears in the final minute of the second half.
The only second half touchdown came midway through the third quarter on a 25-yard Justin Hardy completion to Chris Person.
New Bern (1-1) travels to Bertie County next Friday while 1-1 West Craven faces Pamlico at home.
