More Charges In Fatal Hit & Run

Further charges have been filed in a deadly hit and run that happened July 14th.

24-year-old Brittany Hanigan is now charged with felony hit and run, felony death by motor vehicle, and felony obstruction of justice. New Bern police arrested the woman Wednesday and remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.

Hanigan is accused of striking pedestrian Arrild Force while he and his brother were walking down South Glenburnie Road. Originally the New Bern woman was charged with driving while impaired.

Police say Hanigan has another DWI charge pending in Charlotte.

I knew Arrild and his brother and the family is going threw a hard time . This is a sad sad thing that has happend, and because one young lady decided to drink and drive 2 lives will be lost she killed Arrild and because of that she loses her freedom. I dont agree with that totally. He lost his life and she gets to live in prison. But she gets to live. Its a loss to her Family who has to live without her . All because one person. I hope this is a good lesson to everyone not to drink and drive . I know it wont stop everyone but if it stops one person from drinking and driving then atleast God didnt take him for nothing God does everything for a reason. Who knows why he took someone so young but he does and he has a good reason. but she needs to be punished. And she will be if not here then When she has to face God Justice will be served

If you're going to read and comment on such a sensitive matter as this, know your facts. A license is TEMPORARILY supsended upon being charged with DWI. Then, the burden of proof is on the State to Convict. After conviction comes punishment. Note: her case was PENDING and her license probably a provisional one. To J. in New Bern: You are legally obligated to come forward with any information you might have as to who the passenger was when this happened. If you're not prepared to do that, I would not broadcast your involvement on the web.

I know this person and know that she was driving a friends car when this happened. They have impounded it and I was wondering what are the NC laws when another person is driving your car? Does the owner claim responsibility?

Yes you do lose your license anyway just last month my sister had gotten a DWI they told her that her license was to be turned in._(like you stated) by I'm saying ho w could she driving and she was still waiting to go to court for the 1st DWI.She should not have been driving(right). And more than likely her license will be taken for a year (in most cases). She might would have got driven previlages but I hope to God not now.

The dwi she had before was with a suspened license as well. That makes 2 dwi's and no license. She will never learn. She will be one of those that will keep driving and the laws we have now allow it. The laws need to change to put in jail each time it happens.Maybe when people sit injailfor 10or more yrs will make the difference. To bad a young life had to be lost.

SHC, you do not lose your license except for the 30 day revocation. It is up to the judge upon conviction wether you lose your license.

she should also get charge with driving while license suspended or revoked because she already had 1 DWI and they take your license with the first charge.
