Police: Attempted Child Abduction In Havelock Never Happened

It never happened.

That's what police now say about a reported attempted child abduction in the Tucker Creek area of Havelock Thursday.

Police say a 13-year-old girl told them she was walking home from school when she was approached by three men in an older model white station wagon. She said they tried to get her in the car with them, but she told them no and they left.

Havelock police began an investigation. Police say during the follow-up interviews, they noticed inconsistencies. In fact, police say the alleged victim provided four different version of the incident.

Police say during a subsequent interview, it was "learned that she had fabricated the initial report and had also attempted to involve an older sibling in the scheme. During further follow-up police were able to complete the investigation late Sunday, July 26, 2009, and were able to determine that the incident never occurred."

According to police, they are "working with the family of the juvenile and Juvenile Services regarding the incident."

I think she needs to be punished for what she did. These officers took their time to look for someone for doing a crime that never happened. She needs help. She was probably doing this for attention.

I say put her little lying butt in jail for a night and show her that its not acceptable. Don't just pop her on the hand. She needs to know that the next time she does this and its true, people will have a hard time believing her. Brat.
