Trenton Man Wins Whistleblower Suit Against DMV

A judge says North Carolina must rehire an employee who was fired after he complained that the Division of Motor Vehicles might be giving drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants.

Wake County Superior Court Judge Howard Manning ruled Tuesday that Jeffrey Brown has a right to return to his DMV job and to $70,000 in back pay.

Brown worked as a license examiner in the DMV New Bern office from July 2006 until April 2007. He was fired after he complained that state policy allowing immigrants with temporary work visas to renew licenses for longer than their visa period conflicted with state law.

Brown said after he won his lawsuit that he was being forced to give licenses to illegals and his supervisors told him to be quiet.

Thank God the judge wasnt corrupt!! State employees are tired of being threatend and a victim of intimidation by upper level supervisors wanting to secure thier high paid jobs. Way to go Mr. Brown I'm glad you were able to fight back! DMV gave out licenses and id's to illegals like drugs to an addict and this state is still suffering because of it!! And now they want the illegals arrested for fraud and DMV distributed the license...!@#!#! You think that the leaders of DMV should be held accountable..?

The way I see it is that our federal and state "leaders" are criminals because they are willfully breaking the law. Round them up and put them in jail. That is what we do to lawbreakers, is it not? Thank me very much!

As a former DMV employee I am tickled pink that this Examiner won this lawsuit...I, too,saw with my own eyes what was happening in the DMV office years before this happened & along with a DMV investigator, got several examiners & a senior examiner terminated & criminally charged....but only a couple received active time....I was also approached about giving these illegals license & was astounded at the amount of money that the instigators were willing to pay...that's when I went to the investigator because the EXaminers were told to keep quiet & not make waves...this came directly from the Director's office....And,by the way, even after a year SBI investigation, after the few were criminally charged, neither the investigator nor I was ever given even a "thank you" by RAleigh..The problem is in top management & until the Governor does something about him, things will never change....Way to go Jeff Brown...I would love to shake your hand!!!

I was privledge to meet and talk to Jeff Brown.I stated then and now my support for his actions to do the right thing. These types of illegal acts are all to common today. This is why our Government( our"law makers")is in the state it's in. I'm for capital punishment, everyone in the Capital should be punished starting at the top and working down to weed-out people like those morons that Jeff had to work under.I'm glad some Judge in the system knew how to call it right for a change. My thanks to Jeff and anyone else for the effort to get the system back on track.

Not only did Mr. Brown do the right thing, but was fired by supervisors who should be fired. They need to make Mr. Brown the head Supervisor! I bet he will still suffer problems from his whistleblower actions. They have been forced to hire him back, but you can bet he want have an easy time of it.!
