Neuse River Fish Kill

About 50,000 fish went belly up in the Neuse River in Craven County Thursday.

Lower Neuse Riverkeeper Larry Baldwin says many of the fish washed up along the shores at Carolina Pines near Havelock.

River monitors blame hot temperatures and low oxygen levels.

This is the second significant fish kill in less than a week. Last Friday about 20,00 fish were found dead in the Neuse.

A representative of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources said Thursday evening that the estimated number of fish killed was closer to 7,000. Take the numbers that the NRF states and divide by 10, then you might have the correct number.
