New Bern Police Make Arrest In Shooting

There's been an arrest in a shooting that happened Monday evening in New Bern.

Stephen Best has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Roderick Pugh told police he was shot by an unknown man while standing in a parking lot off Walt Bellamy Drive.

Police say Best came into the police department Tuesday night to cooperate with detectives. Their investigation shows the shooting was due to an argument over an unpaid debt.

Best has a Friday court appearance and his bond was set at $5,000.

There have been no arrests yet in a Monday evening shooting. The shooting took place at Trent Court in New Bern.

Police were called to CarolinaEast Medical Center around 6:20 p.m., after the gunshot victim came to the emergency room.

Rodderick Pugh told officers he was talking to friends in a parking lot off Walt Bellamy Drive, when a man approached the area.

Pugh said gunman the shot him in the leg, but he was unable to provide police with a detailed description.
