TRAVEL ALERT: Avoid Highway 101

There is a travel alert for one part of Eastern Carolina. Havelock is telling motorists to avoid Highway 101, if possible.

That's because of construction work that is scheduled to last until September. One lane of the busy road will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for shoulder widening and repaving.

The Town of Havelock says to expect significant delays in both directions. Crews are currently working near the town limits at Outer Banks Drive and are moving east.

The D.O.T. says the work could continue until September 30th.

How far down are they widening the shoulder? Will this effect people that take the Minnestto Beach ferry going east on 101?
