A medical examiner says an elderly woman drowned late Friday night during severe thunderstorms.
Havelock police say Madeline McCain of Havelock was found in her car in a rain-flooded loading dock. Police say the 79-year-old woman had been to a nearby bingo hall and apparently drove down the loading dock by mistake.
The woman's car was found nose-down in about 3-1/2 feet of water. Police say there was evidence McCain tried to get out of her car.
The medical examiner ruled the cause of death as accidental drowning.
