Construction Delays On New Bern Access Bridge

Easy access to historic downtown New Bern has been on the fritz for more than two years now.

Motorists have been taking detours to get to the city center since the old Alfred Cunningham Drawbridge was whisked away in May of 2007.

Department of Transportation officials say the completion deadline is still November of this year, but say construction is about a month behind.

The double-bascule bridge is being built as part of the Bear City's 300th anniversary celebration next year.
