More Warrants For Man Accused Of Kidnapping Mother And Child

More warrants have been issued for a kidnapping suspect in New Bern.

Police say they obtained additional warrants Wednesday against a man involved in a kidnapping Monday night.

Police say Richard West of Crawford Street is now wanted for
multiple counts of second degree kidnapping and two counts of communication of threats.

One of the warrants for communicating threats was obtained Monday night immediately following the incident.

The New Bern Police Department began an investigation after a friend of Vanessa Avellino reported the woman and her 20-month old son, Jordan Avellino, had been kidnapped by West around 8 p.m. Monday.

The victims were later found unharmed in the Bridgeton area.

Police say West, who is the ex-boyfriend of Avellino and father of the young child, is considered armed and dangerous.



New Bern Police say a toddler and his mother who were reported kidnapped overnight have been found safe.

New Bern Police Spokesperson Beth Stevenson says Vanessa Avellino and her child, 20-month-old Jordan, were found unharmed in Bridgeton Monday night.

Police say a friend of Avellino reported the two had been kidnapped by 30-year-old Richard West of Crawford St. in New Bern.

Police have taken out a warrant for the arrest of West for communicating threats. There is no warrant on charges of kidnapping at this time, according to Stevenson.

They say West is the father of the child and ex-boyfriend of the mother.

Police say West is now traveling on foot

An Amber Alert was never issued for the missing child.
