Eastern Carolina Military Expansion Underway

A report released by the military growth task force shows that expected growth for our region is ahead of schedule.

Almost 9,000 of the expected 11,500 active military and civilian personnel are already in eastern Carolina.

Officials with the task force say that a committee is currently assessing the availability and need for affordable housing for Marines. But some realtors in Craven County say the growth is already impacting the housing market here positively.

The influx of all Marines and their families is expected to continue over the next three and a half years.

Dave, has anyone addressed the issue of the roads? Western Blvd and 17 are like gridlock no matter what time of day you go through it. I know there was talk of building up infrastructure to handle the incoming Military, but I haven't heard if anything was ever done. Obviously the roads are still crowded. Thanks and keep up the good work WITN!
