Fire caused damage to four boats in Pamlico County overnight Monday. One man whose boat was damaged was thankful to be alive on Tuesday.
John Knox says he was planning to spend Monday night in his sailboat in Oriental. When plans changed and went back the next day, his boat was among four boats that caught on fire. Knox says he was glad that he decided not to sleep overnight.
Officials say they do not know the cause of the fire but they say the damage done to the boats rack up over 100-thousand dollars.

Fire Marshal David Spruill says a sailboat caught fire just after midnight at Sea Harbour Marina in Oriental.
Spruill says the fire spread to three more boats.
All four boats are privately owned.
Officials say two were heavily damaged while two others received minor damage.
No injuries were reported and authorities do not suspect foul play.
