Hundreds Turn Out For Fishermen Funerals

An overflow crowd of mourners gathered Monday afternoon in front of the New Bern Eastern Missionary Baptist Association headquarters to pay their final respects to two fishermen who died last week.

Timothy and Roy Smith Jr. died last Tuesday when their commercial fishing boat sank off the New Jersey shore.

Some 600-700 mourners attended the funeral for the Smith brothers. It was also a memorial service for their uncle, Tarzan Smith, who's body has not yet been recovered.

The two brothers from Mesic were among seven people on the Lady Mary. Only one crew member survived.

They must have been well-known in their community and throughout their church association. God bless their families.
