A century old building in one eastern Carolina city is being restored.
Empire Properties is renovating the five story Elks building at the corner of Pollock and Middle Street in New Bern. The building had been condemned and the city required the previous owner to sell it.
The building was completed in 1908 and has housed everything from a public library to a soda shop over the years.
Officials with the New Bern area Chamber of Commerce say that if interest in the building increases renovations could be done in less than a year.
