Whale Spotted Off N.C. Crystal Coast

A whale with a possible injury to the right tail fin has been spotted along the North Carolina coast Tuesday morning.

The Coast Guard says someone spotted the whale between Emerald Isle and Salter Path, heading west. Officials did not know what type of whale was reported.

This whale spotting comes after a season of many already. There have been 20 strandings in NC so far this year...four whales, two seals, two porpoises and the rest dolphins. Two whales washed ashore in March, one in Virginia Beach and the other near the Outer Banks.

Bob, deer are as common as rats. Piping plovers, turtles and whales are endangered. I personally think you knew that when you posted. If there is blame on commercial fishermen, then I hope it is only to the extent to have them fish with the best safest practices that still enable them to produce and make money. However, I do not believe the plover or whale problems are based on our fishermen. The whale problem is usually larger transport non-fishing boats. The gear issue is usually international longliners and seiners, I thought.

what is it with whales, turtles and piping plovers that make so much news? it will be blamed on a commerical fishermans gear or boat! on the other hand a deer gets creamed on the highway everyday and its bussiness as usual.

Bubba's great-great-great grandson will wonder what burning gasoline smells like...as he lights his whale oil lamp. He'll wonder what it was like to drive around in a big truck...as he hitches the horses up to the wagon.

...and Bubba, that makes no sense. I'm failing to see the connection between an injured whale off the coast and oil drilling.

Now if we had giant oil refineries off our coast, these types of shenanigans would not take place. Drill baby Drill!... I am tired of spending 100 dollars a pop to fill up my F350 dually.
