U.S. Coast Guard Command Center At Ft. Macon Moving

The U.S. Coast Guard at Fort Macon is moving its command center to Wilmington.

Beginning on Friday all calls to the U.S. Coast Guard in North Carolina will be answered in Wilmington.

The emergency response in the Atlantic Beach area will remain the same.

About 40 people with the command center are moving to Wilmington, the other 270 will remain at the Fort Macon base.

This merger with Wilmington's Marine Safety office is the final step in the reorganization process that began nearly 7 years ago.
