Tip Leads To Convicted Sex Offender

Authorities say a viewer tip has led to the arrest of a convicted sex offender who had not notified authorities of his new address as required by law.

The Carteret County Sheriff's Office says someone recognized Francis Alford Junior's picture on TV Friday night and called Emerald Isle Police who arrested him at the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier around 8:15 p.m.

Alford, who was first put on the registry following a 2007 sexual battery plea, formerly lived on Lake Road in Newport. Officers say Alford did not notify them of his new change of address.

I'm glad to see that in Carteret County, sex offenders are not allowed to wander all over the place. In neighboring Pender County, it appears that officials had allowed nearly 30 percent of the sex offender population to get sloppy with their registrations, before finally cracking down on them all at once (just prior to elections of course). http://gregkendall.com/docs/disproportionate_arrests.php
