Two teenagers had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming unaware of just how far they had drifted in their raft at a local beach.
Emerald Isle Assistant Fire Chief Don Askew says they got the call for rescue around 5:30 p.m. Askew says the teens said they had not realized just how far they had gone, and that when they did, they were unable to paddle back.
Officials say they had to use a jet ski to rescue the boys and brought them back to the beach near the 9500 block of Ocean Drive.
The Coast Guard retrieved the raft and brought it back to the fire station.
The teens were not injured.
