Bacterial levels exceeding acceptable levels have prompted a swimming alert and a swimming advisory in Eastern Carolina waterways.
An advisory against swimming was posted Wednesday at a sound-side site in Dare County.
The advisory affects waters at Jockey's Ridge sound-side access in Nags Head.
State officials also say testing at an ocean-side site in Carteret County showed levels of bacteria exceeding the state and Environmental Protection Agency's recreational water quality swimming standards and issued a swimming alert there. A swimming advisory may also have to be posted there.
The alert affects waters at the public beach access just east of mile marker 8 ½ off Highway 58 East in Pine Knoll Shores.
