Those who use a popular coastal swimming site are being warned about high bacteria levels.
State health officials have issued a water quality swimming advisory for the public beach access on Radio Island in Carteret County. Tests taken Monday show bacteria exceeds state and federal levels.
A sign has been posted warning people they should not swim within 200 feet.
State officials say they will continue to test the site on Radio Island and will remove the sign when levels drop below safe standards.
