Carteret County Fire Claims Home, Couple Okay

A couple in western Carteret County is dealing with devastating damage to their home from a fire.

Crews were dispatched just before 5 a.m. Thursday to the home on Pettiford Road in Peletier.

The home, a large shed and carport were on fire. Officials say the couple was home but got out safely.

It's believed the fire started in the shed and then spread. Officials say initial estimates are that the home is a total loss.

Officials report 30 firefighters from five departments responded.

They do not attend a church. However, Peletier First Missionary Baptist Church is located across the highway from the entrance into their neighborhood. I can contact the church and see if arrangements can be made.

Does this couple attend a church where items can be bought and sent to replace items lost in their home?

They were dispatched around 3am. So sad. But glad everyone is ok. Items can be replaced but I know it is sickening to know you work so hard and it all go up in flames in minutes. This family worked out of their shed. This was their income. Please keep them in thoughts and prayers. Neighboring homes received damage as well. Thank you to all the F.D.'s for responding...Western Carteret, Stella, Swansboro, Broad Creek and Emerald Isle
