Stolen Gun Found In Baby's Bedroom During Drug Search

Deputies say they found a stolen handgun hidden in an air vent of a one year old's bedroom during a search for drugs.

Demetri Berry is charged with maintaining a dwelling, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, misdemeanor child abuse, possession of fire arm by felon and possession of stolen property. Christina Sanchez was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor child abuse.

Carteret County deputies say they searched the couple's mobile home on Saturday at Eagles Nest Mobile Home Park after getting information from state troopers following a traffic stop earlier.

In addition to the gun in the air vent, deputies say they found marijuana and scales in another bedroom, along with nearly $2,000 in cash. The Department of Social Services was contacted as deputies say the baby was in the home when drug activity was taking place.

Berry was jailed on a $30,000 bond, while bond for Sanchez was set at $1,500.

So, you read an article, and come to the conclusion that all parties are guilty? Shame on all of you that do so. I've known Christina for some time now. And I know the folks who raised her. I don't believe for a moment that she is involved with drugs nor is she involved with the stolen gun. While she may have been in the same home where that suff was at, don't mean she had anything to do with any of it. Cristina is a good person and a good mother. She has a job and works hard. As for Mr. Berry, I don't know him to say anything about him.

Who cares what kind of scales. Sounds like a pack of wild animals to me. A baby is just a hinderence to this kind of trash.

TO: Justiceforall: Maybe you should re-read an article before you go off on the writer. THe article states "marijuana and scales", not marijuana scales...

The article says the police found "marijuana scales" in this home. So where do people buy these specifically-designed "marijuana scales"? I guess you can just go down to the "Drugs-R-Us", and get those scales in the "tools" section... From what I know, there is NO SUCH THING as "marijuana scales" sold in the USA. What they had was a KITCHEN SCALE, and they were using it to weigh their weed. Accurate language is the FOUNDATION of journalism, and the LAW. If our media and our Law Enforcement agencies cannot (or will not) use language accurately, we are headed down a VERY dangerous path folks...

I don't think the article was read very well. And now your trying to imply something by adding "kitchen scales." Read it again, all it says was they had scales, it really doesn't matter what kind. Either way they got busted, good job law enforcement.

"Marijuana and scales" is the quote from the article. Sounds like someone would like to buy some.
