Sex Offender Under $5 Million Bond

Bond has been set at $5 million for a convicted sex offender who deputies say has been jumping from state to state.

Michael Anderson of Emerald Isle is in jail for failing to register as a sex offender in North Carolina. U.S. Marshals alerted Carteret County deputies after they discovered the man was living in the county. Lawmen say Anderson also goes by the name Michael Burton.

Deputies say the high bond is because they believe Anderson is a flight risk. They say the 32-year-old man has failed to register as a sex offender in Florida and Texas before moving to North Carolina.

Anderson is also charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and communicating threats.

I think the registry should actually say what he done not what he plea bargained down to. Let the public decide wheter we think he is a threat off of the truth. I think some of the registry is a joke! A 19 year old having sex with a 15 year old is different than rape!

Tick of your girl friend, you may end up as a sex offender. Date a crack head, you may end up as a sex offender. Have a girl lie to you about her age,you may end up as a sex offender. Have a girl ask you for money and don't give it to her, you may end up as a sex offender. Spilt up with yoour wife, you may end up as a sex offender. The list grows.

true--i think they should separate the crime in which two teenagers over 15 are having sex. anything older than 19 with a teenager, or a teenager over 17 with someone younger than 15 should be illegal and get you put on 'the list'. and by the way, PLEASE--its not the victims fault for being sexually offended. please dont play it that way. people like you are the reason women are scared to file charges of rape.

just bc someone is a registered sex offender doesnt mean they are going around raping people..true..but it also doesnt mean they are innocent if theyve just been busted on the one account. hes communicating threats, taken someones vehicle without permission, and given a false name--likely to avoid detection. sounds like nothing good was coming from all this! who knows what else he has done--another poster said wisely--the law doesnt stop people from doing stuff.

I went to the National Sex Offender Registery today I found two different entries for this man - one under the name of Michael W(ayne) Anderson and ANOTHER one under the name of Michael W(illiam) Anderson. The first appears to be from FLORIDA, the second one is OUR NC database. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK at the stark contrast. The second one says there are NO REGISTY violations (even though the guy is in jail attire),appears he voluntarily registered, and doesn't say what actual crime occurred. Just because the victim was 14 and he was 19 doesn't mean this guy was duped/stupid. FLORIDA's database SO MUCH BETTER. BTW- anyone else curious WHY this guy is here? NC passed a law to allow sex offenders to petition to removed from the registry, wonder if that was why he moved here? While other places were strengthening laws to protect the public, NC chose to create and pass GS 14-208-12A. Too bad the NEWS media let that one slip under the radar. WAKE county has actually allowed a TX RAPIST to be freed from registering! I also found it troubling our database actually has incorrect information and the US MARSHALLS had to be involved in order to get this guy.

The way the law was after you are on the list for ten years you came off. NOW after ten years you petition the courts to come off. ( Thay don't have to let you off ) Its like that in every state. The truth is sex offenders have the lowest rate of recidivism of all the crime categories. I would rather know who has had a D.W.I. More kids and adults are hurt or killed by drinking and driving. You don't see a registery for that do you?

Actually you are mistaken, not all states are ALIKE when it comes to sex offenders and registry requirements. Also, in some states sex offenders registry requirements are portable; in other states, you remain on their state's registery as long as your sentence(s) require. In the case of the TX rapist - he would NOT have come off the registry in TX but their registry, at that time was portable. His move to NC and our state law allowed it. In our state when these felons petition the court- on our dime by the way, they don't have to petition in the county where they committed the crime, there is no provision to ensure their DNA is in the database, there was no provision victims had to notified until this last session of the Assembly, and there still is no provision the sheriff has to be notified. It is a courtesy. The stats for recidivism like the stats for missing persons is skewed because of inaccurate or missing reports and jurisdictional lines. Did you notice the different name our registry has for this guy than the FLORIDA registry. The mention he had lived in TX yet no registry information for him for that state in our National registry? The National registry feeds from each state. Think the felons don't know this? Have you ever actually gathered and verified recidivism stats? Across state lines? I have tried for over a decade. I am right now wondering WHY the US MARSHALLS were so concerned about this man they reached out to the Carteret sheriff dept? His 1999 conviction in IN required him to register for a set time. That time actually would have lapsed years ago. He is not on their registry. So what is the REAL STORY with this man? Has he been gaming the system? Who did he communicate threats to in NC? I wish this story had been done better!

Let's say he had sex 13 years ago with a 15yo girl, they were in love and he planned to marry this girl. He's 19 at the time. Mom and dad don't like him and he gets charged with indecent liberties with a minor. That's what he was charged with 13 years ago and found guilty of. Some are saying what if it were my daughter. What if he were your son?

How sad is it that it has taken what 14 years to find him? And it had to be right in my area? He doesn't need to stand no trial be needs to be put behind bars and never see the sunlight again! Along with all the other worthless perv's around here and everywhere for that matter!!! SICK!

Anybody who thinks it shouldn't matter should be there with him. If it was one of my girls this wouldn't even be an article, because I wouldve took care of him.

According to the article at one of the papers, his offense occurred at the age of 19 with a minor under age. He's 33 now and probably can't get a job because of it. Unless it was out right rape he shouldn't have had to register at all unless he offended again. Consentualsex with a girl acting older than her age? If that's the case, he shouldn't be here 13 years later.

If it was your daughter and it was Consentual sex. Then you are at fault too. Laws don't rise our kids, we do. laws do not paotect our kids, we do. Has any law stop you from speeding? Has any law stoped anyone from drinking and driving?

you people obviously didnt read the post. what 40some is saying, the man shouldnt still be on the list if he had consentual sex with a 15 yr old when he was 19. he should be off the list ten years after the offense, but hes still up there--seems that theres more to the story than the simple 'older boyfriend that mom and dad didnt like' issue.
