A truck driver has been charged after his vehicle struck a loaded Carteret County school bus Monday.
Beaufort police say 24 students from East Carteret High School were taken to Carteret General Hospital, along with the truck driver, Milton Adams of Beaufort. All injuries were minor, according to police.
The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. at Professional Park Drive and Troon Way. Police say as the bus was heading down Professional, the truck struck it near the right rear axle, causing it to separate from the bus's frame.
Police say Adams ran through a stop sign. He told police his brakes failed when he tried to stop at the intersection. Adams was charged with failing to yield the right of way.
