Investigators are still trying to find out why a 21-foot sailboat caught fire and sank Thursday afternoon in Beaufort.
Beaufort Assistant Fire Chief Richard Lovick says it happened around 3:00 p.m. in Taylors Creek behind Beaufort town hall.
Lovick says no one was on the boat at the time and no one was injured, but he said a couple L.P. tanks exploded.
He said the boat was already sitting low in the water, and that water used to put out the fire caused it to sink. It's still sitting on the bottom of the creek.
Morehead City's fire boat and Towboat U.S. assisted with the fire.
