Curfew For Pine Knoll Shores

Pine Knoll Shores will enact a curfew at 8:00 p.m. Friday.

The beach town says during the curfew only emergency vehicles will be permitted to travel within the town.

The town also has enacted a State of Emergency.

Previous Story

Black flag conditions have been posted for one beach on the Crystal Coast.

The town of Pine Knoll Shores says that means the surf is unsafe to enter for swimmers or surfers.

Kramer says the rip currents due to Hurricane Irene are bringing about these warning and they're asking people to stay out of the surf during black flag conditions.

The town manager says because of the dangerous conditions, rescue personnel will not be able to deploy equipment into the water in rough black flag conditions.

They don't like surfers coming to their beach in PKS.

Why just Pine Knoll Shores? Shouldn't adjacent beaches be flying the same (or similar) flags? Yet we hear nothing about Atlantic Beach, Indian Beach, Emerald Isle, Ocracoke, Topsail, Surf City, etc. ...Shouldn't they also be flying flags? If so, why has WITN chosen to note just this one?
