Plane Crash Reported In Beaufort

An experimental aircraft crashed Monday at the Michael J. Smith Airport in the Carteret County town of Beaufort, according to the Carteret County News-Times.

The newspaper reported that the engine on the plane stalled during takeoff around 11 a.m. Monday, and the plane crashed at the airport with one person was on board.

The Carteret County News-Times says the pilot suffered a broken nose and a cut to his knee, but that was the extent of his injuries. His name was not released.

    The NTSB wil get involved, because he is required to report it.

    I wish reporters wouldn't sensationalize stories like this one. The engine quit (stalled refers to aerodynamics) on take-off and he landed then ran off the end of the runway. Another news source reported that the pilot climbed out and was in good spirits. The NTSB won't even get involved in this one.
