Pirate Ship Goes Up In Flames In Beaufort

A pirate ship went up in flames Saturday afternoon during the Beaufort Pirate Invasion event in Carteret County.

Beaufort fire officials were called to the scene just before 4 p.m.

Officials say a 25-foot pontoon boat had been transformed into a pirate ship for the event. The boat was returning to the dock when the two crew members on board noticed a fire in the back of the boat. The two people then jumped aboard another boat that was right next to them.

Morehead City fire officials and the U.S. Coast Guard were also called in to assist.

The boat was towed to Town Creek Marina.

Officials say the boat is a total loss. They are investigating what started the fire.

No one was injured.
