A 15-year-old is recovering Saturday after he was stabbed by a 14-year-old, according to Newport police.
Lawmen report they were called to a report of a stabbing around 3:00 a.m. Saturday in the White Sands Boulevard area.
They say the stabbing took place in the roadway between Kings Way and Beaver Dam Trail in the White Sands subdivision.
According to police, the 15-year-old boy suffered stab wounds to the front and back of his shoulder, along with multiple cuts on his arms and stomach. He was taken to the hospital, and authorities say he is going to be okay.
Lawmen put out a description of the teen suspect and say they found him riding a bicycle on Howard Boulevard, about 2 miles from the crime scene. Newport police also report they found the pocket knife used in the attack near the scene.
The teen is facing a charge of felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is locked up in a Department of Correction Juvenile Detention Facility.
According to police, "information obtained during the investigation leads officers to believe the attack resulted from the victim confronting the suspect about his relationship with a relative of the victim."
